Vehicles

1P Helicopter

  • Flies free in eight directions with inertia and banking, and fires forward.
  • Carries a machine gun, rockets and the heavy missile, which fractures rock and can bring a whole mountain down.
  • It suffers the wind most: constant drift and gusts that shake it. Snow, rain and smoke change direction just before each gust.

2P Jeep

  • Drives on the ground, jumps and aims its machine gun in an arc overhead.
  • On PC you choose in Settings how it aims: mouse or right stick, automatic at the nearest enemy within the arc, or fixed diagonal like the original. On mobile it aims by itself.
  • It has to jump the mines dropped by trucks and withstand the snow and rubble pushed by half-tracks on the slope.

On mobile

A floating virtual stick on the left; on the right, fire (with optional auto-fire), heavy missile and jump. Per-weapon vibration. You can also play with a Bluetooth controller.

Switching vehicles

Between levels, in the hangar, if the other one is free: each vehicle keeps the weapons bought for it. Mid-level, at helipads, if you both accept (the bot always does), with a short handover that never stops the scroll.

Weapons and shop

Every enemy drops coins that bounce and get pulled towards your vehicle. Whatever each vehicle picks up is its own, the bot included. Between levels, in the hangar, you spend it on weapons and upgrades for each vehicle.

VehicleShop weapons
HelicopterMachine gun → minigun, rockets, guided missiles, heavy missile, incendiary bomb and water or ice bomb.
JeepMachine gun → twin cannon, mortar, flamethrower, grenade launcher and front shield.

Plus: fire rate, damage and ammo upgrades, repairs and extra lives. In co-op you both shop at once in the same hangar and see what the other picks. The combo multiplier climbs with chained kills and drops when you take damage.

Power-ups

They drop from special enemies, containers and marked waves.

Triple or piercing shot
Temporary weapon upgrade.
Shield
Soaks hits for a while.
Repair
Restores health.
Heavy missiles
More charges to split rock.
Support drone
A temporary drone that fires alongside you.
Coin magnet
Pulls in all nearby money.
×2 multiplier
Doubles what you earn.
Slow motion
A few seconds to get out of a tight spot.

Enemies

The alpine level has about 25 enemy types, each with its own silhouette, shot colour and sound so you can read it at a glance. Not all of them shoot: kamikazes, mines and balloons force you to move.

Ceiling and walls

Ceiling machine gun
Short aimed bursts.
Cannon turret
Slow, heavy shell with a charge warning.
Ceiling rocket launcher
A salvo of three rockets that track you for a while.
Cliff bunker
Lots of health and several gun slits; it comes down whole.
Laser turret
A sweeping beam with a visual warning, at the military base.
Trap stalactite
Falls as you pass below; it works against enemies too.

Ground

Infantry and RPG
Soldiers in groups; the RPG ones go for the helicopter.
Sniper
Laser warning and a very fast shot.
Mortar
Arcing shot with a mark on the ground.
Flak
Bursts that explode in the air.
Pickup and motorbike
The pickup rams the jeep; the bike is a kamikaze.
Armoured cars and APCs
The APC drops infantry when it stops.
Tank
Only vulnerable from behind or from above.
Radar tank
While it lives, the others aim better: take it out first.
Rocket truck
A salvo that covers half the screen.
Mine layer
Leaves mines the jeep has to jump.

Air

Drone swarm
Six to ten in a wavy formation, kamikazes.
Strafing jet
Crosses the screen bombing in a line.
Propeller plane
Dives and machine-guns; sheds parts when damaged.
Attack helicopter
Seeks a duel, dodges and repositions.
Transport helicopter
Drops paratroopers or a pickup and splits in two.
Barrage balloon
Its cables block the helicopter’s height.
V2 missile
On-screen warning and a crater that breaks the terrain.

Liquid throwers

Acid cannon
An arcing stream that digs out the rock.
Magma mortar
Splashes, sets things alight and leaves flows.
Water cannon
Pushes you, puts out your fire and leaves slippery puddles.
Tank turret
Throws whatever it holds; burst it and it empties at once.
Ceiling sprinkler
Intermittent acid rain you have to time.

Elite variants wear red armour, have more health, another firing pattern and more money; they are common on Hard and Veteran. Killing with the terrain pays a bonus.

Materials

Water, magma, acid, obsidian, snow, steam and toxic gas are simulated as particles on the GPU and react with each other.

Water
Puts out fire, cools magma, pushes light enemies and floats debris.
Magma
Hurts on contact and burns; melts snow. As it cools it crusts over and then turns to obsidian.
Acid
Eats into and digs out rock.
Obsidian
Bears weight, blocks the way and cracks under explosions or bullets.
Snow
Piles up and comes down in avalanches that sweep heavy vehicles away.
Steam and gas
Water on magma boils; toxic gas goes wherever the wind takes it.

The environment hurts you even when your partner caused it: falling rocks, avalanches, magma, steam. Their direct shots do not.

Weather

Depending on the level, weather and time are fixed, changing or random, and they are not just scenery.

Time
Dawn, day, dusk and night. At night: headlights, enemy searchlights sweeping the sky, and glowing magma and acid.
Sky
Clear, cloudy, rain (with puddles that dry), storms with lightning, and snow.
Wind
Calm, some or strong, with gusts. It pushes the helicopter and slow projectiles, and carries smoke, steam, gas and snow.

Lives and co-op

  • A health bar and extra lives, arcade style.
  • In co-op, if you go down, you respawn as long as your partner is still alive.
  • Out of lives, you retry the level with the money and weapons you had when it started. The campaign is saved between levels.
  • The timer is always on screen and stops during cutscenes. At the end: your time, a breakdown and a comparison with your best, which goes to the leaderboard.
